WebIt is the only National Grassland in the tallgrass prairie region of the United States. The grassland provides habitat for greater prairie chickens in North Dakota as well as several other sensitive species such as the Dakota skipper and Regal Fritillary. WebIt is designated as the Central and Southern Mixed Grasslands ecoregion by the World Wildlife Fund . Geography [ edit] This large grassland area with very few trees runs north–south from central Nebraska through central Kansas and western Oklahoma to north-central Texas, covering 109,000 sq mi (282,000 km 2 ).
